HDM workholding vise?

What would y’all recommend for a vise for the HDM?

What material do you wish to hold? Dimensions?

Are the options at:

not suitable?

Note that you can get:

and secure the lock stops so as to define a right angle, then secure against them w/ the clamps.

I guess I’m really looking for a solution to raising the 6061 up off the table so i can machine through it in many places without worrying about the table. And it would be nice to have the quickness of a vise. Most of what I am working with are 13" x 5" x 1" 6061. Creating injection molds for the APSX-PIM.

I’ll be interested to see what gets suggested. 5” is on the larger side of most hobby machine vises I’ve seen. You might be entering the realm of “real” machinist vises at this point

Then there’s the width. 13” on any single vise is sure to leave a good bit of stickout over the edge of the vise. Maybe with the 1” thickness on the material it won’t matter much? Though maybe you’re in the two small vises territory.

Should be educational to see what folks recommend :slightly_smiling_face:

(@SLCJedi maybe you’ve got some thoughts since you seem well equipped?)

For that use case I’d go with the Saunders Machine Works tooling plates and mod vises. They are not cheap but work awesome.

Oh that’s a good idea. The SMW locating pins could also be pretty convenient to integrate into the molds. Very simple way to facilitate retouching molds if necessary.

I bought a SMW vise and fixture plate for my SP5 pro.
Not cheap, but I will never have to buy again.
