Hdpe milling frustration

Your links doesn’t work for me.

It looks like all my other oflute bits.

SPEtools O-flutes work perfect for UHMWPE which is far more annoying to machine.

That looks like it’s inherently unbalanced, the slot is down one side of the cutter and that puts the mass off centre.

The link I posted was the wrong one anyway, I just went and looked at the bit and it’s from Rennie tool not APT. Anyway the single flute makes one full rotation of the cutter leaving the tool closer to balanced.

Thanks for the picture.

I’m normally a bit of a snob about bit brands. I stick to Amana and Cody’s sir everything that I can. Cody doesn’t offer an o flute larger than 1/4. And frankly I wasn’t interested. In spending Amana money to try a 1/2” bit in plastic for the first time. I’m already loosing money on the first batch of these do to the issues I’ve ran into.

Without going into details there’s major changes going on at the company I’m making these for that started after the order was made and I’m being cautious about tooling up for a while.

I can see why you’d want to buy decent cutters when it’s a business and you’re counting materials and time as costs.

That bit from Rennie is relatively cheap, but they’re a UK supplier

No idea what the equivalent cost would be in the US now…

This seems to be $75/roll? Tariffs?

Must be. It used to be half that… if not less.
