Help me identify this machine and what I need to make it run

Got this off Facebook pretty cheap, the more I look at it I’m wondering if I’d have as much in a new one by the time I get done! I’m pretty sure it’s a 3 model but I can’t find any serial or model. It shows up as a 3 when I plug into a PC.

Anyone have any ideas on what it is more what to get started on for getting it back to cutting wood? I’ve got a DeWalt trim router id like to use if possible.

Thanks for any help!

It looks like the machine has been converted from a CNC router to a CNC laser. Did it come with a router body, or any bits?

On that note, do you want a router or a laser?

Ya, it’s got a 4.2w laser. I’d like to go back to a router. What you see is what I got w it. I’ve got a DeWalt trim router or I can buy another one to go in here if needed.

Shapeoko 3, belt-drive Z-axis, Satndard size.

The original rectangular mount will fit a 69mm DeWalt DWP611/D26200.

If you can run the current Carbide Motion and connect:

then it should work to run the Setup Wizard:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/docs/shapeoko-setup/

(but check w/ the previous owner if there is a change which must be done to convert from Laser to CNC mode?)

For more on the SO3 see:

Got those done, I can move it around w the software so that all seems good. Old owner isn’t etonbe much help. The guy I’d gotten it from had it for a few years and never used it. Don’t know the guy before him. Thanks for verifying the model, I’ll look up and see what I need for videos and parts!

I have an SO3 XXL that was from 2016. I originally had a belt Z and it worked well but I upgraded to an HDZ.

The original SO3 like you have has a 69MM router mount. When originally bought it came with an adapter to allow a 66MM router. I think you can still buy the adapter from C3D. However I highly recommend the Dewalt router. I have been on the forum for a long time and the Makita/C3D routers give a lot of issues. My Dewalt has had one brush change all this time and has never given me any trouble. The Makita/C3D routers can run slightly slower than a Dewalt but frankly I never run anything that can take advantage of the slightly lower speed on the Makita/C3D routers.

The belt Z will work but has a lot of limitations. The SO3 is getting long in the tooth but is still a good machine. If you can upgrade to the Z-Plus or the HDZ is C3D is still offering them for the SO3. With a Z-Plus and/or HDZ Z you have a pretty good machine. The standard SO3 is rather small but most of the work I do would work on a standard machine. If you get a Z-Plus you can get a 69MM or a 66MM router mount. If you get the 69MM and the adapter for the 66MM router you always have the option of either router size. If you get the 66MM then only a Makita or a C3D router will work in your Z.

You do have the option to leave it as a dedicated laser machine.
