Homeing Z axis during initialization

I had some issues with my laptop had to reset the os now carbide motion wont initialize. it just runs the z axis down and continues to try and home causing gthe belts to slip.

Have you re-sent the machine configuration?

I have been through the process a couple times. Am fairly new to CNC but feel I have a good handle on it. overlooking something.

Maybe I don’t have as much a handle as I think I do.

Have checked connections homing switches, I feel its very odd for this to happen. I had to reinstall the drivers for carbide motion. Reset process deleted the programs

If your Z is running in the wrong direction during initialization it is almost 99% configuration. The three types of Z are:

  1. Belt Z on the Shapeoko 3
  2. Z-Plus refereed to as Lead Screw. This is standard equipment on Later SO3, SO4 and Pro models.
  3. HDZ - this is an upgrade for all SO3, 4, Pro Models. Refereed as Ball Screw

The Belt Z and the HDZ run in the opposite direction from a Z-Plus.

The procedure to send configuration:

  1. Power on Shapeoko.
  2. Open Carbide Motion
  3. Connect USB Cable to Shapeoko and Computer
  4. Connect to Shapeoko but DO NOT INITIALIZE.
  5. Go to the Settings.
  6. The configuration usually opens on the second tab of 3 tabs.
  7. Uncheck the BitSetter, you will set that up later if not already set up but turn it off.
  8. Go back to first tab and choose Shapeoko type and Z type.
  9. Send Configuration.
  10. Initialize. If you Z still runs in the wrong direction and it has worked in the past you may have chose the wrong Z or you have a wiring problem if a new machine.

If you initialize properly then jog to the BitSetter location and in Settings open the configuration and in the second tab use the position to set the BitSetter location. You can send the config again. Mostly the config is setting up Carbide Motion for the machine type and where the BitSetter is located.

If you fail to initialize trouble shoot that until it initializes properly. Then configure BitSetter.
