I’m hoping someone can help me and offer some advice on hose control for dust extraction. I have a Shapeoko 5.1 Pro 4x4 CNC. I am using the Dewalt StealthSonic dust shop vac with the Mullet Cyclone Dust Collector. I use a Festool D 50x4m-AS (2") antistatic hose. I’ve tried to suspend the hose from above the Shapeoko; however, because of the nature of the ribs along the outside of the hose, it eventually gets caught up from above, binds, and pops out of the Sweepy dust boot.
I’d love to see some examples how folks are managing the hoses. Here is my setup, which isn’t working very well:
I just use a looped bungie cord at the ceiling, but my largest machines are a 4x2 and an XXL, and since my vacuum has an Oneida Ultimate Dust Deputy on it is quite a bit taller so the reach is shorter.
I will note that if you switch to a straight 2.5" straight hose (but be sure to get one which is conductive/static dissipative) your vacuum will be much quieter.
I used a two point arrangement. I watched it as I moved to extremes.
Maintaining something of a dip keeps tension off the spindle mount ( wood clamp )
I made sure it didn’t wrap around itself as it went along.
Same as Will, I just loop a bungee around the hose. Very similar to yours but the hose is quite a bit looser. Maybe try just another foot of slack in your cradle so the hose doesn’t have to slide through it. ??
Thank you all for the suggestions. This seems to be such a fundamental piece, and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ll start working through the solutions and see if I can have better luck. Thanks again and keep the examples coming!
