Hi, I’m installing the new 80mm Spindle and CW-3000 Chiller on my Shapeoko 5 Pro. I have added 9L of coolant to the tank per the instructions, started the chiller and I have bled the air from the lines. How do I measure the amount of coolant in the coolant tank? How do I know when to add more coolant? Does the 9L of coolant required in the instructions include the volume required to fill the water lines or do I need to add more coolant to keep 9L of coolant in the tank? Pictures of older models have a bubble gauge where you can see the coolant level. My CW-3000 does not have a gauge. Thoughts?
It’s not like a car, once it’s hooked up it shouldn’t be leaking. The sump, or pump connection on the tank should be at the bottom, so if the volume of coolant is off by a little, it shouldn’t matter.
I do recall the volume in the chiller instructions, the label on the chiller, and the amount on the C3D website not all being the same, but all were in the ~2+ gallon range.
If you’re really curious, you could just put a stick in the fill hole, touch the bottom of the tank & check it like an oil dipstick. Or tip it sideways until you can see the coolant.
But as long as it’s working, and the spindle is cool after a good amount of cutting, no worries
Thanks Tod. I did make a dip stick so I can monitor the level. I agree that since it is a closed system the level should not change. I’ll find something else to worry about.
All my chillers have sight glass style level indicators
All of my chillers evaporate water. Unlike a car it is not a sealed system under pressure. The caps are vented.
I stopped using rv antifreeze due to gelling issues 4 years ago. I now use distilled water for my routers and check them monthly but only really add once or twice a year. I am in an air conditioned shop so humidity level is low.
My cw5200 s on the other hand get topped off every month on my lasers.
