How to close vector

Collective,

I have been working to turn this laser design into one I can do on the Shapeoko 5. I am attempting to leave the design and name at stock height and mill out the remaining portion as a pocket. I have done this on a few other designs, but I cannot get this one to work properly due to the open (Mountain Snow Cap) vector (I assume). Any help closing the vector or a work around with the pocket toolpath would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to subtract that from the pocket geometry.

For the underlying principle see:

First, open the file:

Second, select the geometry which makes up this region:

and duplicate it:

and then if need be, draw in geometry where things will need to be cut/trimmed:

Select everything:

and use Trim Vectors:

to allow one to click to remove portions which are not wanted:

OK

Use Join Vectors to close things:

Yes

shift-click to remove the closed geometry from the selection:

Delete

Then assign a toolpath:

Attached as a v7 file.

Thank you Will, I appreciate the detailed instructions. I was under the impression the geometry was more complicated than what your instructions show. You’ve helped in a big way!
