I have been experimenting with Carbide Create Pro trying to design a small rounded profile picture frame with mitred corners.
I can produce what I’m looking for with the Model/Angle option, but the same doesn’t seem to work with the Model/Round option?
I have tried a different approach by using parallel and vertical rectangles to create the frame, overlapping at the corners and using Max as my Merge type. Still not quite what I’m looking for, getting very close, but I was wondering if there is a better way?
Thank you for your suggestion, but as you will see following your instructions I get rounded corners as I would expect. How did you manage to get the square corners in your example?
My example has rounded corners. You could try squaring off the corners on the original vectors, but that won’t give you a perfectly mitered corner as if you just mitered 2 pieces of half-round stock. (If that’s what you’re looking for)
Modeling in CC is not actually modeling, but image editing. You are building a height (depth) map, rather than actual solids.
Best I can think of to get that shape just right would be to machine it as 2 separate operations.
Build 2 edges like this, then create a boundary to only machine those 2 edges
Thank you for taking the time to help me, it’s very much appreciated.
Interesting to know your frame also had rounded corners as they looked square on your screenshot.
Perfectly mitered corner as if I just mitered 2 pieces of half-round stock was indeed what I was looking for. But if it’s not possible it’s not a problem. It works so perfectly using the “Angle” option in Model, as a relative newbe I was more concerned I was missing something.
The size of my frames are small at just 30mm square, the idea being to make scale miniature frames for dolls house enthusiasts, or items of jewellery. (I work with pewter)
I did come up with another alternative, creating an Angled frame, then overlaying this with rounded end strips. But your latest idea of frames with just two rounded corners produces a better result and comes very close.
I’m a huge fan of Carbide Create Pro and I would just like to say this minor issue is not going to make me look into alternative software.
