How to cut clean v groove lettering

Hello, I have been playing with my CNC machine now for a while and I’m getting some comfortable with it. Does anyone have a link or a good suggestion as to what things would help me to get a clean cut V groove lettering into my signs, there always seems to be these little fuzzy things that are nearly impossible to clean out later.

I have the same issue. Following…

I have a Cadance Manufacturing 60 degree down cut vee bit. They also have a 30 degree one.

The down cut 60 degree makes great vcarves even in pine. However any bit that cuts cross grain may leave fuzzies behind. I use a stiff nylon brush to help clean up any residual fuzzies but sometimes it just takes elbow grease to clean up things. The 60 degree works great on larger vcarve object but the 30 would work better on smaller to midsize objects. I use a regular 15 degree for very fine or small objects.

What I have done using ‘normal’ (shear-cutting) V Bits is

  • Run the cut as usual
  • Very lightly sand the top. I do this at the finest grit I will use on the top. This will remove some fuzzies, and push the remainder into the cut.
  • Re-run the cut, but cut at full depth, i.e., set the Depth Of Cut on the bit you are using to a value larger than the depth of your cut.

Other than that, a stiff bristle brush of nylon will do a pretty good job of cleaning things up and minimizing the marks from the brush.
