How to pocket cut this example


How can I pocket the inside offset area but leave the shape of the design to be contoured

Select the inner outline, and the outline of the design β€” if need be, select the design and offset it, then shift-click on the outer offset geometry to deselect it, and delete what isn’t necessary.

I want to pocket everything but the text and design. Then I will advance v carve the text and design

Download the file and open it:

Inset the outer border by the desired thickness:

Ungroup things:

Select the outer geometry of the inner design and the offset geometry by shift-clicking to add/remove things from the selection:

Assign a pocket to the desired depth:

if you have a BitSetter an Advanced V carving w/ pocket clearing would be better and is what we will use instead:

which previews as

Go back to the design pane and offset by the width which the V carving will be offset

Fill this area w/ the desired texture:

Obviously it will be necessary to adjust the offset around the text β€” it should equal the radius of the endmill used or more β€” adjust all settings as desired.

Carve the other details:

and cut away the perimeter:
