I had a request from my friend Dr Kulhavy. Dr Kulhavy is a professor at SFA in the forestry department. This past summer Dr Kulhavy organized a woodworking show for my Wood Workers club of East Texas. The Cole Art Center was the venue. We submitted our woodworking projects and those chosen were displayed for about a month. The Cole Art Center is part of Stephen F. Austin University. We also meet at the Forestry Lab Building monthly for our club meetings.
Here is a link to the Wood Working Show.
I had a scrollsaw Howling Wolf in the show and Dr Kulhavy wanted to buy it to give to another professor at SFA that helped with the show. I just told him I would make him one and cut the pattern out this morning. I made a small stand and engraved it on both sides. Dr Kulhavy will give it to his collegue for appreciation on his help with our show.
I used my Shapeoko 3 to engrave on both sides. On the top it says:
" The Howling Wolf" and “The Howling Canis Lupis” which is the scientific name for the American Wolf. I added the Canis Lupis because they are professors.
The wolf and stand were made from black walnut I got as slabs from SFA. I used Watco Dark Walnut Danish oil to finish the project. Dr Kulhavy had offered to buy my original project but I just made him a duplicate and will give it to him.
To add on to my post at the same time I am in a photo club in Nacgdoches. We had a gallery show at the same time as the woodworking show. I had two photos in the gallery show. I was the only participant in both shows.
San Angelo State Park Sunset
This picture was taken at San Angelo Texas sSate Park on August 31, 2011. I was on a business trip and went to the lake at night to polish up my car. The little park is beautiful and I was in the right place at the right time at the magic hours. The following are the settings for the picture taken with my Nikon Cool Pix at 6.3MM F3.3 1/30 second ISO 160.
The image was enhanced in Affinity Photo.
Sometimes you are just in the right spot at the right time.
Goblin Valley Rock Formation
This picture was taken in Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. I went on a long vacation out west and went to the park. The rock formations are like an alein landscape. I took the picture with a Sony A57 SLR Digital 35MM Lens F/13 1/100 Second ISO 100.
This post has nothing to do with CNC or my Shapeoko. Just thought you might enjoy my pictures.
