When I create a new job and select zero from top of stock I get a message in Motion that warns me I an going to cut deeper than my stock by 1-2 times my stock depth (18.2mm) When I change the job to zero from bottom of stock it works as intended.
My set up:
Shapeoko 5 4x4 with VFD spindle
When this happened I was using Carbide Create but I have since upgraded to Carbide Create Pro.
Using 3/4 plywood for spoil board over stock floor.
Material for job is another piece of 3/4 plywood.
Tech support confirmed my machine set up is correct already.
I don’t mean to fire up the top/bottom debate It’s just now I have to zero the job next to the material instead of on top of it?
Where origin is set should not matter for this — it’s a check on total movement of the file.
Jog to where the origin is set, then from there, jog over to somewhere between two MDF filler strips, or out past the front of the machine if possible, then jog down as far as it is indicated the file will cut — does the machine bottom out and lose steps? (If so, re-initialize and adjust the file) — does the tip of the endmill end up deeper in the MDF filler strips than you expected? (If so, check and adjust the file) — if you’re okay with how deeply the file will be cutting, ignore the warning and send it.
