Will Carbide work with my Fox Alien cnc router? Also, I have not seen anywhere on how to start the carving process. I have the basic idea on how to design my project but that’s as far as I can get.
Maybe. In CC you can output either generic gcode or gbrl post processors. The Shapeoko/Nomad post processor likely would not work because they they put C3D specific gcode to use the BitSetter and tool changes. If your machine requires .nc or .tap files to run the gcode then use v6 or if you want to use v7 you have to buy the pro license to make the .c2d file separate out the gcode files. In v7 the .c2d file encrypts the gcode in the .c2d file. So most 3rd party gcode senders do not know how to decrypt the .c2d file to extract the gcode.
I went and looked at the Fox Alein and it looks like a nice machine but it aint no Shapeoko. Shapeoko has several advantages that others do not have and that is the BitSetter. The BitSetter allows multiple tools without the need to save separate gcode tool paths for each tool. On their site they are comparing one of their models to the HDM. Again it aint no HDM. That is not to say it is not a good machine. C3D has a lot of great features and one of them is this forum. They also have great support from C3D. You already have the Fox Alein so I am not going to try and sell you a Shapeoko but I could buy any machine I wanted and I have a Shapeoko. Good Luck. The carbide create will work but stick with v6 if you need .nc or .tap files for your gcode sender. It is available for download on the carbide3d.com site.
Carbide Create should be able to generate G-code which will work w/ pretty much any machine — you’ll just need to select an appropriate post-processor for your setup.
You can either use the free (but unsupported) v6:
or purchase a Pro license:
