I was carving a tray when my controller died and had to be replaced. I didn’t want to lose the chunk of walnut so had to figure out how to resurrect it. So…
Using a piece of scrap lexan I used the same file, but only cut .05 deep. I also carved a cross through the center. I now had an outline of the tray and X and Y axis. I laid the Lexan over my project and aligned it, I not know the exact center and the X and Y plane to set the tray up to the machine.
It worked nicely. If you don’t have Lexan I suppose you could use some scrap wood.
There may have been better ways to fix this, but this was how I did it.
