Starting using the bit for pockets and cutouts…good experience with it and saves a ton of time. Anyone else using it.
I use the Golden Boy from CIC. Same design, it rips thru the roughing passes! Very pleased with the performance of a roughing bit.
I have to give it to the IDC guy. He has made himself quite a business out of giving CNC advise. He has a good channel on youtube and has live sessions where they discuss CNC issues. Quite the entrepreneur.
I’m considering getting it. What kind of CNC/spindle/router are you using, and what kind of feed rate & depth of cuts are you achieving with the Beast?
I don’t specifically have the Beast, I have the equivalent (in my mind) CIC Golden Boy bit.
I can max the S5 Pro, 65mm Spindle (original) F/S’s out while using this in hard, hard wood. This comes with the caveat that there is a ratio of bit diameter to DOC. It will handle 2x the 0.25” bit diameter and perform 0.50” DOC, However I don’t have the need to push it to its limits all the time. This info was established during testing phase of the bit itself.
I have the 65mm spindle,feedrate 80-100and I use .2" DOC.
Ive got the beast and its been great, doesnt scream like others and will do a full 3/4 cut in one pass on the s5. I generally take 1/4" pases just so i dont flex things so much
what do you use for the finishing pass for pockets?
Since its a roughing bit and leaves ridges, i do a final pass with the 302 bit that came with the machine
If I’m filling the pocket with epoxy I just use a flat end mill, if I’m making a tray for example I use an end mill with a radius end for a more natural transition from the bottom to side wall.
Ive been using it, works wonders.
are those bits less expensive?
I don’t think so. $35 - $80 depending on shank size/diameter/cut length. I get them from Woodpeckers.
