IDC Muscle Chuck

A few months ago I was looking at the IDC Muscle Chuck (essentially a “quick change” system for bits) and never purchased. I was on the IDC site yesterday to purchase, but it is no longer available. I’ve looked through the forums here and most posts are a little older. Is anyone aware of a similar product, or system to change out bits a quicker and more efficiently? I currently run a 4XXL.

Appreciate any input or advice, thanks.
Ken

I am on the Router Forums and some people love the muscle chuck. Others hate it. The only issue is with a longer spindle (bit+muscle chuck) is your runout will be more. If the offset of the ease of use is worth the wrenches it might be ok. However I own 4" OAL bit that I would not use with any kind of extension. It has to be seated a couple of times to get the runout as low as possible. FYI.

I have not, I didn’t realize the “Muscle Chuck” was not only an IDC product. Thank you for the info

I recently put a MuscleChuck on my Shapeoko Pro (4) router. Have only used it a few times since, but so far I really like - no more dropped bits and it’s easy to swap. I probably should pull out the dial indicator and measure runout, but as I’m away from the shop that’ll be a while.

One thing to note is that for this router (Makita), it’s only ¼". To use ⅛" bit you need a collet sleeve adapter.

I will note that I the the spindel I use also require a collet reducer (for sizes smaller then 8mm or 5/16"), and they seem to be well-balanced and excellent quality:
