The specs say the footprint is 24" deep. I made my enclosure 27" deep and now have to add another inch or two.
When all the way back, the shelf that holds the chains stick out beyond the foot print. Then when it goes forward to change bits it sticks out beyond the 24" foot print
How wide did you make your enclosure? I am planning on getting the Pro XXL and want the enclosure to be 54"x48"x24". I am hoping this will be large enough.
I made mine 60" wide inside. Allows me to move it around a little if I have to work on it. It is too heavy for me to remove from the cabinet to work on. I also made it 24" high inside.
It’s also worth leaving some space at the front for the inevitable stick-out of the dust boot and hose in front of whatever you’re running as a spindle.
Also let me add what I found out in sound proofing. I read all the specs and it like acoustical ceiling tile would work great as sound proofing material. Well, not so great. It is hard and transmitted the sound directly from where it sat on the enclosure floor (covered in ceiling tile).
I wound up buying 3/4" Styrofoam panels from Lowes ( 13" X 48", 6 panels, about $10. I placed the 4XL on a piece of 1/8" hardboard which was then placed on top of the Styrofoam which was on the enclosure floor. This decoupled the sound transmission. With the enclosure open I’m running about 75db, with it closed I am now running about 58db.
I had also looked at the homasote sound board, but felt it was too hard and would probably also transmit the sound.
