I'm having alot of trouble trying to fit crosses onto a shield, not fit but make them all connected

As you can see, I have a shield…well several attempts. I’m having a problem connected the partial crosses at the edges of the shield without the program adding extra lines here there and weird places.

It’s not clear what you are trying to do. Do you want the partial crosses at the edge to become part of the outline, like this:

Or do you want the crosses at the edge ‘trimmed’ but NOT part of the outline, like this?

Or something else?

This is a multi-step process.

First step is to increase the number of crosses so that there is a complete set crossing the border:

Then, measure the inset of the field at the top:

and select the shield and inset it by that dimension:

Select all the crossing geometry and use the Trim Vectors" command:

to click on and remove what is not wanted:

Note that it can be subjective what is removed/left:

Until one arrives at:

OK

Join Vectors

Yes

Select the Open Vectors:

delete

But note that due to a lack of symmetry/consistency in the original design, there are some infelicitous odd bits — these may be addressed by selecting the more complete versions on the opposite side:

copy-pasting/duplicating them:

Mirroring them horizontally, and replacing the less complete versions:

Attached as a v7 file.

Not sure why I didnt think about insetting and doing what you did.
Thank you again, as I have worked all day today I will follow through with how you did it tomorrow and hopefully learn a thing.
