Importing and creating toolpaths for a geographic depth map

Given a pixel image:

It can be imported into Carbide Create Pro as an image:

(we will be using v8 here, but the same principles apply to earlier versions)

First, draw in geometry to define where the 3D model will be made:

Select the image:

check the import:

and adjust as desired:

Done

Since we want the ocean to be included, add that:

Apply

Done

Apply toolpaths:

selecting a suitable tool, a #202 Ball-nose to start with roughing.

Then, apply a 3D Finishing toolpath:

Note that we go down one size to a #101, but stick with the Ball-nose.

The 3D Finishing toolpath may be adjusted as desired — increasing stepover is a usual approach, or an additional 3D Finishing toolpath may be added, at a different angle, or using a smaller tool:

Iterate and adjust until a suitable 3D preview is arrived at:
