Inductive Limit Switches

Hi all, new to the group and owning a CNC. I want to install inductive proximity sensors for my x,y, and z limit switches. The inputs on my SO3 board look like they are for a dry contact mechanical switch. Does anyone know if a 2 or 3 wire prox switch can be used, what the voltage level the board is looking for, should it be NO or NC, PNP or NPN, etc?

Thanks!

Any switch that can pull the 5V side to ground will work. Some people have used proximity switches, some have used Hall effect sensors. I had some optical switches on my S1 for a while but the sawdust kept setting them off.

The switches don’t need to be mechanical, they just need to be able to pull the input to ground. All the ground pins on the inputs on the board are hooked together (I checked this a while ago) so you really only need four wires too.

There’s a bit on limit switch types and choices on the Shapeoko wiki: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Home/Limit_Switches#Types_of_Limit_Switches
