Just installed my Shapeoko Pro XL. Bought it 3 years ago, just now have the space for it. I am reading that for some machines, it is recommended to use a surfacing bit on the bed. Is this necessary/recommended for the MDF slats that come with the hybrid bed?
Yes, recommended to ensure the bed is parallel with the X/Y axis. Most of using a router or the 65mm spindle use a 1” fly cutter.
Do a search on the forum, plenty of discussion on this.
The machine was built square, but MDF does expand/contract and swell with moisture. And you are reassembling it, in a different environment.
Put a probe or tool in the spindle & check a bunch of spots on the table. Is the Z height the same, or within your tolerance? If not, surface it.
