Hello Everyone. Mya name is David and i am new to CNC wood working. Just bought and set up a Shapeoko Pro. I have been woodworking for years . Have built m grand kids cribs , hope chest also a large coat cabinet . Not a pro by any means . I would say a fair woodworker . Looking forward to making several different items with my new machine . I will admit it is a little intimidating trying to understand the lay out program.

Welcome to the forum!

Review all of the material provided on Carbide 3D site. Work thru the video library, there are videos that take you the basics to cutting your first project. Make some fire wood and learn the machine. Then the fun begins.

If you’re stuck, jump on the forum and use the search function. If you can’t find the answer or help you need then start a post with the issue, upload the file your working on and or pictures of the project or machine if the machine is the issue.

Plenty of help on here, you just need to tap into it.

Hey I am 71 and had my Shapeoko 3 XXL for 6 years. So you will learn how to use the design software if you simply use it. Dont be afraid to jump in and try. If you have any questions simply ask here on the forum. The only dumb question is the one you dont ask. Good Luck and post what you make. There is a gallery and put your work up there even if simple. Start simple and it will progress from there. Everyone here on the forum started out as a beginner at some time. Your woodworking skills will help you.

You have chosen wisely (shameless Indiana Jones reference) with the purchase of the Shapeoko. Great tool! AND the video training, 2 hours of one on one training, and the community are all things that took me from TOTAL noob, to feeling very comfortable in creating most anything I want.

When I started I got very frustrated at times. But this community above everything else walked me through exactly what I needed to do. The moral support and tech support from everyone here was/is fantastic.

Yes definitely do a search on what you are trying to figure out but don’t be afraid to ask the stupid questions. You will get help often times in MINUTES. Crazy!!

Welcome to this fantastic community.

Welcome!

(moved your post to the dedicated thread for this)

What sort of work do you wish to do? How do you plan to approach it?

We want to do many different things, hopefully some 3D things and wall name monograms.
Just getting started. My wife who also joined here yesterday, she does design the monograms and cuts the patterns out and I have been cutting them out on my scroll saw up to this point. Hoping she can use that knowledge to make some designs for our new 3D router.

We’ve discussed monograms here a bit:

if you have any difficulty with designs, please post them and we’ll do our best to assist.
