Ken, I purchased my SO5 on November 22nd and it is arriving tomorrow which is a little over 2 months.
Thanks for the update. It’s gonna be a long couple of months.
@KevBarn14 keep Shapeoko 5 videos coming.
Got mine the other day, just a couple comments. Overall everything is great, definitely a robust quality machine. Arrived in great condition over all. The double boxing seemed to prevent any damage like some of the 1st shipped units. There were still a bunch of loose screw/bolts floating around in the boxes. Specifically 6 of the Gantry Cross Dowels and bolts were floating around loose. 2 of them actually got wedged between the Ball Screw and frame and I didn’t see them until I slid the Gantry all the way forward and it got jammed up. I think maybe just a touch of locktite on the screws might prevent that. Took me about 3 hours by myself to complete, way faster than my Pro XXl. Would have been quicker with 2 people. I wish there had been an included assembly manual. I did download the manual and looking back I should have printed it out to make it easier to read. I have the VFD Spindle kit and like others have said, it would be nice if the cable to the spindle was about 3’ longer. I realize that it was built long before the Pro 5 was designed but the future VFDs should have a longer cable. Overall I’m still very happy with my purchase
Our machine arrived and was assembled on Tuesday. No missing screws or loose parts. A little scuff on the rails on the right base frame. Well packaged, easy to assemble. Just waiting on a router now. Very excited to start using the machine.
Yes Ken,
I’ve been working with the machine quite a bit. Even though we’ve gone big with the 4x4, it doesn’t mean you cannot make something small. Aluminum has been the victim as of late, for The 5.

When did you place your order?
@Snoakes1 When did you place your order?
We placed our order ~11/30/22.
Placed mine on Dec 11th
What is the maximum gcode file size this machine will load?
Grbl doesn’t load entire files — it has a small buffer, and communication/control programs such as Carbide Motion send files one line at a time, filling that buffer.
How large a file a communication/control program can load depends on the computer in question.
In the olden days of CC the files were limited and CM would crash. In the latest versions of v6 and v7 there does not seem to be a limit. As @WillAdams says the whole file is not loaded at once. The buffers are kept full via the usb connection. So I guess technically the file size is limitless. What is not limitless is your computer memory and the communications via usb. I have ran many 16 hour jobs and not had any problems with communication via the usb. During extremely large file cutting more important is static reduction. One static discharge will stop the usb communication and the C3D controller will get confused and stop working. So for big files make sure static is under control on your machine.
Ok that’s good to know. I guess I was still stuck in the olden days. Not much wonder considering my age . I didn’t realize that problem had already been addressed.
Sadly my delivery has hit a snag. It’s been sitting at the Winnipeg FedEx depot since Jan 31, claiming clearance issues. Carbide3d called them for me and there’s nothing wrong with the docs, FedEx is just behind. Hopefully once they’re done playing forklift football with my packages, they will be on their way, but the tracking software just says ‘Delayed, no delivery date available’.
Hi there!
I wanted to follow up here on this Shapeoko 5 Pro thread since I commented regarding an issue with my machine about a week ago. I was having issues with the Bitsetter probe constantly being “Active” in Carbide Motion which prevented me from being able to properly setup the Bitsetter (despite using the “fixed” wiring for the front-plate and Bitsetter extensions that were sent to me separately from the Carbide team).
Support initially thought my Bitsetter unit was faulty, but we discovered that a replacement unit did not resolve the issue. After some more investigation, it was discovered that my Switch connector which plugs into the control board for the Shapeoko 5 Pro was incorrectly wired. Shoutout to @SLCJedi for sending me some photos of his connector which helped me expedite the troubleshooting with support. I am certain that this was probably a fluke and is likely not to happen with other units, but I wanted to share a photo for reference in case anyone runs into a similar issue when setting up your machine and have checked connections on the other side of things. The support team sent me a new wiring harness several days ago and I’m now fully operational with the machine and could not be happier. Thank you, Carbide 3D team!
I’m woefully unprepared for it and my shop space is a hot mess from too many projects, but look what showed up today.
Ordered 12/15/22 with an estimated ship date of 4/18/23, I got tracking numbers yesterday, 2/3/23, and both showed up today, 2/4/23.
UPS didn’t gorilla anything too badly, but there were a couple loose bags of hardware that had escaped from some of the inner boxes that weren’t taped up. Everything seems to be there and in good condition though, looks like adding the second external shipping box took care of any issues.
@moderndaywanderlust When did you place your order?
12/15/22.
Twenty characters.
I feel like I’m getting close. Ordered the week after you!! Glad the shipping box situation got righted.
