Inverted z homing

So I decided that the old computer needed an upgrade. I have a shapeoko 3 xxl. I am setting
(Version 653) it up but when homing instead of moving up towards the z sensor it plunges down. Also the software has glitches where on the z where when jog it goes the wrong direction Then corrects it’s self. I tested all the sensors which respond appropriately. Should I be using an older version?

Carbide Motion build 653 should check for the Grbl version and only connect to 1.1.

Which Z-axis does your machine have? (post a photo of it?)

Is all the wiring in good condition and all connectors secure?

Do you have a BitSetter or BitZero connected?

If it was working fine with your old computer it’s probably a configuration issue when you set up CM on the new one.

The belt Z and HDZ run in the opposite direction from a Z-Plus. So if your Z goes down to initialize you have picked the wrong Z in the setup. There are pictures of the different Z’s but the Z-Plus has no bearing at the bottom of the leadscrew at the bottom. A HDZ has a bearing at the bottom of the leadscrew. The beltZ has no lead screw and if you look over the back you will see a belt.

In the past when I have encountered this behavior (not on a Carbide machine…) it was due to the stepper motor having a flaky connection. When one of the two stepper coils isn’t firing properly, the motor can start in a random direction but sometimes run properly. You might try wiggling the Z stepper connector(s) to see if this might be an issue.

Thank You! I had to read this a couple of times. Sometimes it is hard to see your mistakes. I had to completely unload the program and install with new correct z-plus settings. Which if I had paid attention to the images. Uggh.

I did also check all connections for wear and placement. Thanks for the suggestions.

It didn’t and I missed it.
