Is there an issue with this file?

I created a file that works in simulation, but when my husband runs it on the machine, he says the finishing toolpath doesn’t hit the wood. It’s about an 1/8" above the wood. I went down with him and we jogged it to the current x,y,z and z seemed high. So we reset the z and it is still doing it.

oops I don’t see an ability to attach so here is a google drive link to the file. My stock is 1-3/8 inch.

Are you using the BitSetter when changing to the finishing tool?

Yes it has the automatic bit setter that it goes to every time. When my husband saw it was above the wood, he stopped it and I went down and we reset the Z zero, but still doing it.

From what I see, the file and simulation look good. Any chance there is a mechanical issue keeping the Z axis from reaching down far enough?

Usual issues are related to where you set zero physically on the machine vs where you have it defined in software. But if this is the second path check the start depth for that path. If the first path cut out a pocket then the second path should start at the depth of that pocket.

Usually it is caused by a mismatch between job setup:

and how origin is set relative to the stock:

Your file has this set to Top:

so that’s not likely to be it, but it is quite thick, and the roughing toolpath is long/complex enough that during the cutting, the machine might lost steps while trying to move down, resulting in it not being as deep as it should be.

Photo showing how the part has cut thus far?

Can you capture the cutting on video when the problem happens?
