Issue with Bit runner using compact spindle

Hello,

I recently got the Bit runner for my Pro 5 and after first setting it up, everything seemed to work OK and it was started and stopped by the software as I’d expected.

The next day, starting everything up, when turning on the switch to the router, prior to starting the job, it is turning the spindle on, which I don’t believe it should do.

Super new to all this, so likely I’m not doing something in the correct order.

My steps.

Turn on the Sh.5 at the control box
Turn on the pendant for bitrunner
Going through the process to initialize…load up a job

If at any time up to this point I turn on the power switch on the spindle, it fires up. Interestingly enough, the software is stopping the spindle via the software at tool changes and ending the job.

Also curious…
When using the compact router, is it expected that bit runner will be able to automatically adjust the rpm? Or does this still to be done manually?

Does this change when you have the VFD (I believe that the bit runner I purchased is not used with VFD and it has it’s own controller, as I understand it)

Is there a specific order that things should be started up? e.g. Should the pendant be turned on and ready before turning on the main controller?

Thanks all, really appreciate all of the help out here.

Bob,
I have an XXL Pro, Bit Runner, and Compact Router, so I will talk from that. Should not be different. I control the on/off of my machine with the switch on the face of my machine. That turns off the controller and Bit Runner. I leave the Bit Runner and Compact Router in the on position at all times.

Starting a job, I will place my work piece, open Carbide Motion, load file, and proceed with steps needed to cut my work.

End of day I turn off my XXL. I do not turn off the router or Bit Runner. If you have something else happening when you follow those steps support would be your next call/Email.

Regarding the Spindle. A Bit Runner will not work to control that. Some people will get a Spindle after they are comfortable with their machine to improve cut time and noise. When I do get a Spindle, I am going to put the router and Bit Runner in a drawer for emergencies.

Hope this helps

The original BtRunner has a switch that has on/off/auto. I dont think the new ones have that switch anymore.

The spindle should definitely not start up when the router is turned on. In the CM interface you can turn on the router check if you can turn it off. I dont think it is possible but maybe you turned it on and CM remembers settings. The router should only come on after the job is loaded, the tool is loaded and the BitSetter routine is run. On the current version of CM there is a bug that tells you to set the router to 24000 RPM. Not sure if the beta has fixed that. Plus the newer versions of CM will change the work flow. May try the beta of CM to see if it fixes your problem.

I have the v1 of BitRunner and like @Zman I just leave my router switch turned on all the time and never turn it off because the c2d file and the BitRunner turn my router on and off.
