Jeep center caps

Looking for some suggestions. I have these wheels on my Jeep & I want to make my own flush center caps.

I’m trying to decide if I should make them out of aluminum or hdpe - potentially a combination? To keep it simple I hope to make them in 2 pieces, an inside ring & an outside cap. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions? I want to keep it as light as possible so it doesn’t impact wheel/tire balance.

Oh yeah the important info diameter is 3.5” & they will be 2” tall

pop that center emblem out of those and glue pvc, aluminum or even wood in their place. balance will not be an issue, that close to the center of the wheel with negligible weight.

I considered that but I want to get rid of the standard cap entirely - I’ve been through 2 sets now and they rust really bad. The wheels are great, coated aluminum, but the caps are horrible.

I considered doing something like this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-custom-flush-mount-trd-center-caps.278294/

But these are the types of projects I bought the shapeoko for!

I’ve been looking for the TRD logo like those rims. You would not know where I can get it? My son has a Tacoma and wanted to make something for him.

cutting 2" out of something is going to take a while if it’s metal… there are very long bits for wood that could do that.

but just replacing the center bit, and epoxying the outer thing to weather proof it might not be insane

easy lathe job, more work on a mill

hit up @Vince.Fab to make a die and stamp en out all day long.

pick up some aluminum tube the right size, then machine a plug with an interference fit to the tube. solid press fit, retaining compound if you’re tolerances don’t line up

same as above with a thicker tube - drill and tap holes in perimeter. then have the plug end drill and counterbore/sink/or leave bolts proud.

all kinds of way to skin a cat
