I purchased the jog pendant with my machine in May. When you hold the diretional button to move the axis my machine moves intermittently. Tech support is aware of my issue just defaulting to its a problem with windows os. They are waiting for a fix. Am I the only one struggling with this issue?
Hello. The issue has been talked of here. It happens on my Windows 10 laptop. Got worse past few months. Waking from sleep it happens every time. Reboot fixes it every time too. Something going on with USB power management I suspect. Now I got in the habit of rebooting it right before turning on the controller for the day and no issue.
Mine does the same thing, so you are not alone. For me it has just been a very brief annoyance, so haven’t worried too much about it, but it would be nice if there was a fix…other than rebooting.
Edited to add, and for me it is just the x axis. No issue on y or z.
A Google search of “win 10 usb sleep” will show you some options.
Thank you for replying, rebooting doesn’t seem to help mine. Also My laptop is windows 11. I use the same laptop to do my design work and run the machine. If I new of a good laptop to run the machine that wasn’t to expensive I probably would get one.
Thank you for the reply, on mine its all three X, Y,And Z. Its very annoying. I ran cnc mills and lathes for many years, jogging a machine is basic functionality. I hope they can come up with a solution soon. Again thank you for confirming I wasn’t alone.

I have one of the early production jog pendants, so please take this with a grain of salt — naturally mine has worked perfectly, but the specifics of how I approach using a general-purpose computer for a specific purpose may come into play.
When I connect my Windows 11 (or Mac) computer to my machine, I reboot it — this ensures a clean startup state, and clears anything else which is running from memory. I then launch Carbide Motion and connect and initialize as normal, and only once the cut is running well do I launch anything other than Carbide Create (or whatever CAM tool made the file which I am currently cutting).
Arguably this shouldn’t be necessary, but it’s a habit which dates back to my Quark XPress days — yes, as my kids constantly point out, I’m old — before writing out .ps files for a book production run, reboot and only run Quark while doing so (and make sure that every file when opened is set to 100% view, if it isn’t set it thus and save and close and re-open before proceeding).
Some new findings. I follow similar routine to keep running processes at minimum. I’ve done the usual USB fixes none resolve. Today did the usual boot up fresh, power on Controller, initialize. Jog Pendant working smoothly. Open up OneNote with my project checklist. Opened up a Firefox window to stream some music well I set up material and cleaned up. Guess where this is going. Went to jog again, stuttering in every direction. Closed Firefox, smooth pendant jogging returned.
I poked around in Resource Manager tried increasing the CM process priority to High form normal and setting Firefox to Low. It wasn’t conclusive. Still had some stuttering but not as bad. But the stutter stops with FF closed.
Issue I’m having, which may not be same as others, is clearly resource contention. Firefox is a hog maybe all browsers are to some degree. This was a mid-grade business class laptop when new 10 years ago but can’t run Windows 11. I don’t expect CM or any other software to make effort supporting it.
Sharing in case this is helpful to others.
With one Firefox tab open on my main PC, Task Manager will show 12 to 15 Firefox processes. Firefox is not even on my CNC PC.
You might look at Task Manager and see what other background processes might be also running. My CNC PC is not connected to the Internet, only to my main PC through Ethernet, and only has CM, Orca Slicer and iosender (for my lathe) installed. I so far only run one machine at a time.
I don’t run Firefox but I will look and see what other apps are running in the background and shut them down. This sounds like a hreat suggestion.
I agree I keep it as lean as It can. Uninstalled and disabled a lot of junk. I turn on airplane mode to run programs. Re Firefox is because i have VCarve installed. It needs a browser for a few things. I got tired of MS trying to force sign me in.
I recently replaced the cheapy 10’ USB cable from my pc to the shapeoko controller with a heavy duty 3’ cable. Jog controller pausing went away.

Just received my Rev 2 jog pendant (actually yesterday, but I did not have time to test it until this evening). Unfortunately the continuious jog behavior is exactly the same as the original one.
In continuous jog, the X or Y axis will move in spurts of 2 to 4 inches on my N4. This is not a regular pausing, but will mooove-pause-move-pause-mooooove etc. with the + or - button continuously depressed.
The good news is that I cannot overrun the wheel step buffer. I even got crazy and twisted it back and forth as fast as I could, and the axis moved back and forth accordingly even after I stopped the wheel twisting until (I assume) the accumulated steps were all executed. But no infinite-loop single stepping. ![]()
When I first plugged in the pendant, I did go through the machine initialization just to be on the safe side. I am up-to-date with CM 659.
But it is good to have a pendant again.
Well i didn’t have the same results.I bought the best dog gone cable.I could find, claimed it could transfer 80 gigs of data and just 36" long. Absolutely no improvement.
Well darn it, I am sorry to hear about that. The last two things I tried didn’t make any changes either. I purchased a really good usb c cable and an old referbished laptop. The laptop has 16G of ram and is running windows 11, But the only software I added to it was Carbide Motion and Chrome, its only purpose is to run my router and I tranfer progams on Googlr drive. When I set this laptop up I didn’t let the process install most of the additional background software that gets installed during initial set-up. I wanted this to be as close to a desigmated machine control as possible. Absolutely made no difference. O-well I guess I am learning to libe with the pendant"s poor prefromance.
@Dink, I’m just using the cable that C3D supplied with the pendant. If it’s what they test it with, it should be the default setup… I have not known C3D to skimp on their componentry. I’m guessing that it is some kind of unintended while_pressed interaction in the firmware and/or software…

Just curious, how far in distance can you jog before it starts acting up?
It’s very sporadic, sometimes it’ll go 15 or 20 inches without any pause and other times it won’t even go 3 inches. It will pause for second or two , and then starts moving again until the next pause. I haven’t been able to detect any pattern in the process and it happens on all 3 axes, it’s crazy.
