Jogging to X axis

I’m new to the Shapeoko 4 CNC machine.I have a piece of stock in my machine that is 24 inches wide and 8 inches deep. When I jog to zero my machine the X acis only goes to 17.5 inches to the left. What am I missing to go further to the left?

When you run configuration it sets the maximum amount of jogging the machine can do. There is a little wiggle room because C3D does not want you to slam into the side walls. A legacy feature was that the Suckit dust collection had arms that stuck out past the sides of the Z axis so C3D limited you from going too far and smashing the Suckit into the side rails.

Power off your machine and slowly push your gantry/Z axis and see if it goes further than the jogging can move. If it does move further then you can adjust the machine parameters to jog further. If you are hitting the mechanical stops then that is as far as the Shapeoko 4 can go. There are posts here on the forum to tell you what file to modify manually to get a little bit more in the jogging.

When running gcode nothing stops you from telling the machine to go as far as commanded but in jog your are limited by the configuration.

The standard is 17.5" x 17.5" X 4"
The XL is 33" x 17.5 x 4"
The XXL is 33" x 33" x 4"

Depending on which machine you have if your work fits inside those parameters you should be able to cut a 24" piece on a XXL. The other models you would need to do tiling to cut a longer piece. Another option on the XL would be to put your piece in at an angle but you must be precise in that angle to get the carving on your piece of material. In CC you would rotate your work to that precise angle to match the placement of the material. So for an XXL/XL you should be good to cut a 24" piece of material right to left. If you have a standard you would need to measure the diagional to see if an angled piece of material would fit. Otherwise do a tiling job. There are many posts o how to tile here on the forum.

Thank you, very helpful!!!

Not sure what I should be looking at. Where do I find how to adjust the jogging parameters? I can move my machine much further than where it stops when jogging.
Thank you in advance.

When you configure per:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/docs/shapeoko-setup/

you need to set your correct machine type/size.

A further consideration on an older machine — does your controller have DIP switches for setting micro-stepping? If so, power down and open the control box and verify that they are set to 8x micro-stepping (and NEMA23 for motor type).

If you are still having trouble, upload photos of your machine and your controller and a screen grab showing Carbide Motion and we will look further into this with you.
