Johnson Rod Assembly - Is this Broken or Normal?

What is this part called that runs along the rod…and is it normal for the spring to be out like that? It looks like this on both rods, so I’m not sure…

And in the manual, it’s orange and has a different shape:

Yes, my 4x4 looks exactly the same for the wiper assembly, what does not match yours is the distance of the ball screw that extends out of the wiper.

If you took these photos of both wipers with the gantry in the exact same position then it seems this could be your issue for being out of square? My gantry is parked at the rear but the ball screw measurements to the Y rail/Gantry are exactly the same. I know yours is in the front but I just verified the fronts of the ball screws retention assembly are symmetric.

I’m not quite sure what you mean in terms of distance, but here’s a photo when it’s all the way in the back.

@Saki

Look in the first two photos you posted with the wiper assembly, if you count the threads on the ball screws you will see that are not the same. My statement is if theses two photos were taken with the gantry (X axis rail with the spindle) in the same exact spot something is not right. However I find it hard to believe that the machine could be that far out of square. The difference is 6 threads.

You need to measure the distance on both side to see if they match while the machine is in the back as you just posted.

Ah, I see.

Those are equal distance when taken at the same gantry position.

That’s good to know, one less thing to troubleshoot.

That is their custom wiper. It’s there to keep debris from getting in the ballscrew nut. The spring keeps it against the ballscrew. My S5Pro looks like this as well.
