Jumped on the wagon!

Went ahead and bought myself a Shapeoko XXL last night. Pretty excited from all the videos I’ve seen and everything I have read! In all honesty I have no set direction I am going with this, pretty much winging it. I figure signs and little trinkets until I fully understand what this machine can do.

Knowing everything you know now, with your machine, what would be the first three projects I should make that will help me get started?

Any advise is appreciated!!

Welcome!

We suggest that everyone start at: http://docs.carbide3d.com/assembly/shapeoko/ and do:

If you didn’t buy https://shop.carbide3d.com/collections/tools/products/t-track-table then you should probably do:

You’ll likely want to make or buy a dust shoe: https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Dust_Shoe

and that’s more than 3, so I’ll stop.

The big thing is, we have a standing offer — if you get stuck on a project or file, send it in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll either address it, or if need be, work up a custom step-by-step tutorial which does.

Cool, you bought the big one. I have the standard model and I enjoy it a lot! My advice is to do a careful and solid build, making sure every step is as perfect as you can make it. The newer models are easier to make the appearance look professional. I have found that I really like upgrading the Shapeoko. Check out all the cool dust attachments, limit sensors, LED’s, remote keypads, etc. The help you get here on the forum is just fantastic. I picked up a lot of good info and upgrades by seeing what others have done. Oh!, get the Precise Bits collet. It’s the best.
