Got a Shapeoko XXL from an individual that didn’t have a need for it(He got it used and realized the learning curve was a little steep for him along with the time commitment) So it’s in my shop now.
Here are some details:
It came with the laptop that has carbide motion and VCarve 10 on it and a mishmash of assorted bits and hold downs.
It appears that the Z Axis limit switch may be loose or bad( haven’t dug into the machine to check yet) when it homes the router goes up , hits the limit switch and trys to keep going up. From that point when I set my z height to try a test cut it immediately buries itself as deep as it can go and attempt to cut/carve.
Unless I am misunderstanding VCarve, I believe I have my z height and cut depth correct as i have some experience with cnc machining (I built a Lowrider 3 cnc a few years ago)
I am just looking for some direction on where to start or some good tutorials on maintenance and using vcarve
For the homing switch, which sort do you have? If proximity, we have spares (once you’ve worked with support to verify that that’s what needs to be replaced):
but if you have mechanical homing switches our recommendation would be to upgrade:
Thank you for the suggestions and links, I appear to have mechanical switches. I need to make sure something didn’t come lose first, this is the first time I have seen proximity switches, what is the benefit of them over others?
Proximity switches are maybe more precise, definitely less likely to break.
Or, if a mechanical switch has failed and if you (or a friend) is handy w/ a soldering iron, you could get a replacement Omron switch from an electronics supply house and replace it.
