Hello everyone, I’m looking into cutting the plywood for small kitchens on my shapeoko pro 4.
Does anyone have any experience using design software that can render the kitchen and then give a cut list for your CNC machine?
I’ve used Sketchup to lay out a room and design closets and such. You can then copy & drop the panels onto sheets of ply wood you lay out which would give you the ability to maximize your material. (Free online)
To create CNC files I used VCarve, as that is my CNC CAD, VCarve has a cabinet design plugin that when you tell it the cabinet dimensions it does the tool pathing and layout for you. (Paid program)
I believe I saw someone who made use ot Carbide Create and a cabinet plugin? (Free)
Carbide Create recently gained the ability to import DXFs and map layers in the DXF to layers in Carbide Create — this has a huge potential, and I’m still exploring it and hopeful that other folks will do interesting things with it.
This looks to be one task which this could have excellent synergy with.
There is an app for this which was mentioned over on the Festool Owners’ Group:
No affiliation, though probably should try it out…
Mozaik is used by many cabinet maker
To add to the person who suggested SketchUp, there is a plug-in called Open Cut List that will print out a useful cut list from materials in the design.
However useful, SketchUp isn’t just for cabinets, and has a learning curve if you don’t have previous CAD experience.
I’ve heard that Mozaik might be better for cabinet, but don’t have experience with it.
I’ll check these both out thank you very much. Do you know what the software was called that goes with carve for cabinetry
I know they have Easy Drawer Maker gadget. The box maker gadget can be used. I’ll see if I still have the cabinet gadget.
Here is the link to the Cabinet gadgets,
Take a look at easel.com (pro version) there is a whole cabinet maker section that
may be worth your investigation.
You can also read about it at this link:
Hope it helps.
This does look interesting. I’ll check out this easel.
Also, I’m having problems understanding how to use sketch up with the cut list program because it’s an add-on or a plug-in I guess and this says those don’t work with the browser version so it does you know if you can still get the desktop version?
Didn’t know they had a desktop version.
Ok thanks so much for the input. I have some homework now!
