Lag when moving curves on the stock

I’m frequently encountering lag when moving my curve/curves around on the grid. The curves, text in this particular case, don’t move with the mouse but then suddenly jump several inches across the screen. I’m pretty sure it’s not my computer as I’m using a pretty capable machine. I have no issues operating other high demand software like CAD or Matlab.

Any chance you have something running in the background, like a backup, that would take-up a lot of disc access or processing capacity?

In Windows you can look at task ‘mangler’ (manager) to see processing activities and on Mac I’m sure there’s a console for that, although I’m not sure what that app is (and I use a Mac now so I should know!)

I noticed that too on my Macbook Pro when the grid spacing is set very small

Could you post a sample file and step-by-step instructions for causing this in a current version, or better still the beta:

I’m definitely not running anything that would strain hardware resources. And if that were the case, I would expect the other operating programs to slow, but CC is the only one exhibiting problems.

You know you might be on to something. I did widen grid spacing and I’m not seeing the issue anymore. I’m very curious as to why though.

We’re using the graphics framework built into Qt for rendering. Some things seem to hurt performance a lot even though it doesn’t seem like it should, and the grid is one of them.

In the future we may move to our own rendering for more control.

When I started with V7 it seemed to default to a tiny grid size, something crazy like .037. I normally set that to .250" or .125".

Could you please e-mail a copy of your .ini file to support@carbide3d.com?

It’s in the Carbide Create folder accessed by About | Open Data Directory

Copy of settings.ini sent to support with your request referenced in subject line

Thanks! I was able to test it and am passing the results on to the developers to see what they think.
