Large Sign - No Bitsetter

Hi All,
I am doing a 4 foot sqaure sign on a Shapeoko 5 pro 4x4 and know that I have to remove the bitsetter. Does anyone have some pointers on how to do bit changes without the bitsetter in the sytem? I think it would be best to split the different bit/toolpaths into separate files and execute them one at a time, manually zeroing the height each time. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Mark

That’s one way. You could mark a spot on the job & just set the bitsetter on top for toolchanges.

Thanks Tod, I didn’t think about that, but it should work.

Thanks,
Mark

Correct, the official recommendation is to output files which have only one tool, and to re-do the Z-axis zero in-between each β€” on at least one project, one approach I took was to machine an L shape which would hold the BitZero for setting the zero in-between files.

Thanks WIlliam, another interesting approach!

I would use set up blocks which can be obtained cheaply and are more than accurate enough for wood work. Align the blocks with your workpiece z axis zero point and then set all changed tool bits to the same height.
