I have the Shapeoko Pro XXL. I bought it awhile ago and unboxed it finally this weekend. Everything went well, better than I expected based on my confidence levels. Well, I went to set the machine up in Carbide Motion. I followed all of the steps, including sending the config over. I keep getting a Limit Switch X Error and the machine keeps wanting to go further, even though it’s hitting the front rails.
I took a youtube video of it to show you. I checked some of the wires.
The homing for the machine should be the back (Y axis), right (X axis) and top (Z axis) of the machine. During your homing your machine gantry moves to the front so for starters your Y left and Y right steppers likely need to be flipped. Pretty sure the install video by Winston mentions this and/or a few threads on the forum discuss this. As for when you push the configuration after you select your machine (ie. Shapeoko Pro XXL) the next option is to select your Z axis. The stock/default option is the Z-Plus and the HDZ is only if you purchased the upgrade.
EDIT: If the machine homes in the wrong direction you probably want to turn it off before it crashes into the endplates as this is not good. Also if you are having trouble sorting this out Carbide3D support is always a good way of solving issues.
Thank you sir. I flipped the YL and YR and moved in the correct direction. Now it crashes into the back. I tested all of the proximity switches and the light turns red at each one. I will continue digging and see if I can call the company on Monday. Thanks again.
When you mention you test them and they turn red, I’m assuming that you mean with a metal wrench? If you tested them and they all go red but when it homes to the back and the Y sensor does not turn red it is possible that you still need to adjust the sensor location to make it trigger when it’s close to your back end plates. There are 2 smaller screws that you can loosen and slide the sensor over. If thats not it then support will likely have you verify things at the controller board.
Yes sir. I used the wrench with the kit. One thing I noticed now is that my Z Limit is a solid blue at all times. I disconnected the wires at the router, on the side and then at the controller board then I reconnected. No joy.
I am actually learning a lot about the machine as I try to figure this out.
I just watched the Samcraft video where he had an issue with a different sensor. I unscrewed the socket bolts and removed the sensor at the router. It turns off so it’s not the wiring or board. I will put in an email. Thanks.
