I recently decided to try adding the Opt Laser to my Shapeoko 3. The unit mounts to the front of the router mount, but its designed for the original square mount, not the new redesigned mount available now.
That wasnt an issue until i discovered that one of my mounting bolts is seized inside the aluminum mount and snapped off as i was attempting to install the laser.
The newer redesigned mount does look better engineered, but the Opt laser wont mount to it, so now im on the search for a replacement for my older mount.
This is what i need to replace. A 69mm spindle mount.
If your search for a new mount comes up empty I agree with Ed. E. The mount is already off the machine, if you can’t drill and retap/heli coil then see if a machine shop can do that or just mill a new one for you. Lots of folks on this forum already milling aluminum.
Is there room to move the mount holes over 1/4”-1/2”?
Is it possible to move it to the exact spot on the opposite side (or front based on photo?) of the mount and set you offset for the laser for the new location?
Or the front? It only depends on potential constraints of your work area and offsets. One location may be better than the other. The laser wont care as long as it has the same ability to maintain the required height above the material.
Yrah, sorry on the front face, but drilling and tapping the holes on the left rather than the right. The aluminum piece can be flipped so that the holes in the photo are on the left rather than the right, so if i just add holes on the side without the holes, everything will still align.
