Looking for some advice

Hello.
I tried doing this today.
Inner part about 7"x9". Rough with the 1/4 end mill and finished with 1/8 ball mill. Shorten my step over by half of what was suggested.
I’m guessing that I need some smaller bits for this to look better?
I brought the png using the model tab.
Also is there way way to import the png darker? The image I’m darker and lighter than how it imports in.

If the model geometry allows, use a smaller tool:

Thanks. I’ll need to get some. Any recommendations?

I work for Carbide 3D so:

SPEtool tapered ballnose endmills if you dont need perfectly straight verticles you can get some insane resolution using the 1/32 &1/64th ZrN coated.

W01015 and w01016 are the part numbers but on websites like amazon they pop up under: ZrN coated tapered ballnose

Thank you. I will pic one up.

Thanks. I will give them a look.

I tried an stl and it came out a lot better. I think I should have made it so high.

Another trick for more depth in STLS is if it’s quite 3d removing anything behind the image adding thickness using something like meshmixer will allow you to make the front portion more pronounced.

In V7 there was an option, “Remove Z Height” that would remove that height from the bottom of the STL. Looks like it’s gone in V8. Perhaps to simplify the editing of solid components??

You can still make the workpiece thicker than actual size, so the built in base becomes smaller.

Another option is to load the STL into a tool such as Microsoft’s 3D Builder and edit it there to remove any unwanted thickness, then save that under a new file name.

Thanks for your replies, but I don’t know anything about 3D creation or editing. I’m finding that I need to learn it.

We have some videos on this for Carbide Create Pro at:

and I wrote up a bit at:

Thanks. I’ll take a look.
