Losing steps on X axis whilst cutting air?

Ahah!! After 100 hours+ of cutting without issues, I think I’ve found the problem - as suspected, my fault, but I can see how I’d never have spotted this.

The x axis drag chain that leads to the left side of the gantry has snapped at the end:

So my theory is:

  • I didn’t leave enough ‘play’ in the cable when installing it, so it was creating tension when moving to certain unusual places - eg far to the left or right.
  • Vast majority of cuts would not require movements to the extremities, hence it was working reliably at almost all times.
  • On the occasions it did, this would have created enough tension to lose steps mechanically, whilst looking completely normal when I was inspecting it otherwise.

So just thought I’d note for any similar numpties searching hereafter!!

Now I don’t think it’s worth the 60 day replacement service, but does anyone know what these exact parts are? I just need the fixing link and one replacement piece basically!!

“Numpties” I love British slang/humor/humour. Nice detective work on solving your issue. A lesson to the rest of us numpties that most problems boil down to mechanical issues, feeds/speeds/depth-of-cut, or user error (and not software).
