Machine Stutters Sideways

I have been having an issue for a bit and have been getting by but I am frustrated. It will stutter when moving sideways. I clean the rails, tighten the belt but it still happens. I am not sure if there should be this much play in the router holder. It moves a decent amount but don’t know how to tighten it to the rails. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Which machine do you have?

Photo or video of the stutter?

I have the 3 pro xl. I don’t have a video. It doesn’t happen all the time but pretty regularly. Then I have to shut it off and reinitialize to get back to zero. It is like it’s skipping or slipping the belt.

Please at least post a photo of the machine (there is no “3 pro xl”)

Things to check:

  • wiring and connectors — esp. make sure the wiring leading into and away from each connector is arranged so that it does not shift as the machine moves — for a further check, power up, leave the machine idle for ~20 minutes, then check each connector’s temperature, they should all be room temp., any which aren’t indicate a faulty connection
  • belt condition and anchoring, also pulley set screws
  • eccentric nut adjustment holding V wheels secure against V rails

Also verify that nothing is mechanically interfering with motion.

If you have an SO Pro w/ linear rails, check the rails and blocks:
