Machine Will not connect to carbide Motion

Hello All-I’m looking for a little bit of help or insight here. So my new 5 pro was working great for about a week, however now it will not properly connect to the carbide motion software. When I try to re-initialize The machine, the software does recognize That it is connected because I am able to click on the connect icon on the initialization menu however, after doing so I get an error message saying that the software could not connect to the machine. I have attempted disconnecting all of the cords to the controller, checked all of the connections , And tried reinstalling the carbide motion software. No luck with any of those. All of the limit switches seem to be functioning properly as well.

Any other troubleshooting techniques, I might be able to try? Thanks!

First troubleshooting thing to try is to unplug everything from power and wait 30 minutes or so.

If you then plug things back in and power up are you able to connect? (if possible, try a different computer)

I get this error too if my computer loses comunication with the machine due to e-stop or power down of machine. Resolution that works for me is simply to unplug the USB cable from my computer and plug back in (make sure machine is powered on and e-stop is not toggled before unplugging the usb cable). Then click connect to machine.

Sounds like a USB connection issue. Check that it’s plugged securely into the controller & can’t wriggle/vibrate loose. You could also try a different USB cable. Also check that you’re computer USB port is clean & doesn’t have junk in it preventing proper connection of the contacts.

Every single time I want to connect I have to unplug the USB and plug it back in. Then it works perfectly.

Using a 5 Pro with a MacBook Pro.

One old trick that used to work for me on an older macbook was to run the macbook on battery, not on the power adapter.

A later macbook, a power filter, and better USB cable and it’s not happened to me in years.

I have a bracket on my desk, 3xxl table to hold my usb cable
in place not tight just to hold it in place.1 thin piece of blue painters’ tape around my usb. keeps it snug, works for me.

I use an older macbook air to control my SO5pro and I have to do the same thing with the USB. It’s not because it’s loose, it’s because there is a COM issue in how Macs communicate and establish and maintain connections with peripherals.
