I have been working on this sign for several hours and I can not get the vectors to close on the one part. I have add extensions on them can to tell what I am doing wrong?
I am trying to copy this picture so I can cut it out for a police officer

Searching a bit we find:
which we import to the background:

We then select and ungroup:
For regions which are fully described, select the geometry surrounding it:
and copy-paste in place to duplicate:
Then draw in geometry to define the perimeter areas:

shift-click on the geometry which needs to be trimmed to add it to the selection:
and use Trim Vectors:
to remove the geometry which extends beyond the desired extent for a given region:

Select the balance of the geometry for the region in question:
and shift-click to remove the geometry which was used for trimming:
then use Join Vectors to close:

Repeat for each other region.
