My cousin sent me a picture of a dog and man. Just so happens I had bought the book that had that exact project for scroll saw. Scroll saw projects translate over to CNC very easily. I will get this cut next week after Easter. Went ahead and scanned the image, created an svg and separated the pieces for cutting.
The man will be .75" maple and the dog will be .75" walnut. I will leave the wood its natural color but will paint the names with acrylic paint. Should be a fun and quick project.
Got the man and dog and ear cut out this afternoon. The kids came up for Easter and left about 2:00 PM to go home. I just wasnt in the mood to do a lot of work so I cut the project. When I got part of the way through the man I realized that there were a couple of parts that would have become detached. I stopped the project and added some tabs. Measured how far down I cut and disabled some tool paths that were already cut. Restarted the project. Came out well. Have to finish sanding it and add some finish. Likely some Watco Danish Oil.
In the simulation you could see there would be some islands that would become loose. Not sure why I did not catch that before starting cutting. Alls well that ends well.
After I get it finished sanded I will glue the ear on.
If you want to make one yourself here are the files. The text was cut with a #701 (custom tool) which is a 15 degree vee bit. The other bits are #201 and #251. Be sure to check the setup for your stock thickness and your top/bottom. I usually use bottom.
I used CC 815 so you would have to be on v8 of CC to use the file. My understand is earlier versions wont open v8 files.
Obviously you would have to edit the text for the names you want. I used maple for the man and walnut for the dog. You could paint the figures if you want. For me I will paint the text with white acrylic paint after sealing it with Zinnser Universal Sanding Sealer (dewaxed shellac) so the paint does get asorbed up the grain inside the text.
