McFly Surfacing Cutter - Help

I just bought the McFly surfacing cutter. I used the recommended speed (60ipm) depth of cut (0.02" and a stepover of 0.75" in some walnut. As you can see in the picture the bit is cutting ~ 0.5" of the material flat. Anyone have any ideas as to what I’m doing wrong?

Adjust the spindle/Z-axis spindle carriage plate/gantry to ensure that they are level and plumb.

Work from large–small:

  • gantry -
  • carriage
  • Z-axis spindle carriage plate
  • router mount and router

The marks should go away once everything is level and plumb.
