Memorial plaque

My father-in-law recently ask me to make a memorial plaque for a friend that passed away. he wants the plaque to be about 14" X 15". The plaque with be outside in South Dakota. I only have the basic Carbide create so I cannot do anything 3D. I would like to know what type of wood do you recommend. I will seal it with a good deck sealer. Second can you post something you have made so i get start to get some Ideas

I’d go with a good naturally weatherproof wood like teak, cedar, redwood, cypress…
Or a combination with inlays or layers. ??

Ask your father-in-law for ideas. I usually try to make these kind of things somewhat personal.
What did he like? Where will it hang? Military, outdoor activities, fraternal organizations… ???
Or things that were shared by those who are still around to view it. Happy memories, rather than looking like a gravestone.
