Messed up Pocket

I messed up. I contoured inside the line 0.250" with a 1/8" bit, to fill with epoxy.

Then I will contour cut out outside the line to cut the piece out.

Here is where I don’t know how to get out of the jam I’m in. I want to pocket the remaining inside 0.125" to fill with a different color epoxy. Is there a way to trace the blue line as a new line? or tell the pocket not to pocket the whole section? I’m not sure if I’m making it clear what I’m asking for. in the future I understand I would make a additional line on the design before cutting. But is this project salvageable? its expensive wood.

a rough idea what i hope it will look like at the end. the dark color sits higher with epoxy than the pocketed area.

The blue line should be at the center point of your tool. So your original offset + radius of your tool.

But if you want a new line that matches up with this new edge you’ve cut, you have to account for the material removed by your tool.

So take your original line then do an offset inside by 0.25+0.125
That gives you a line representing this new edge that you’ve created with your accidental contour.

To make sure it looks good, you can do an “air cut” by raising your z an inch above where it is currently, then create an on center contour toolpath.

Running that path should ~perfectly follow your new edge with the center of your cutting tool directly about the new edge.

At this point, you’re back to regular design things.
Make another inside offset to act as the binder for your pocket toolpath.
(This is basically the thickness of your wall/the dark area in your screenshot)

That should be a decent recovery. Just make sure you don’t move the workpiece or change your x/y zero point since “relocating” can be kind of tricky to get right.
If you do the air cut, make sure to raise your z-zero by a known amount so you can lower back to the same position before starting your real pocket operation.
