Mobil Vactra No 2 Oil Supplier or Substitute, Canada

Hello all,

I run a Shapeoko 5 Pro and need to lubricate the linear rails ASAP. I know they make a product specifically for this. However because I already have pipettes and syringes for applying lubricant and the fact I’m in Canada makes it impractical and longer shipping times to purchase small accessories from the states, I’m looking for another place to acquire some of the oil recommended.

Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier (especially if out in BC) that sells Mobil Vactra No 2 Oil in quantities of 1 gallon or less? Am also open to suggestions on comparable lubricants if anyone knows of any that would act as a “dupe”, i.e. similar viscosity, corrosion resistance, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did a google search and found this. The thing about this oil often called way oil is it is used in large quantities in a machine shop. That is likely why you cannot get it in small quantities. I bought a quart off ETSY and that is likely a lifetime supply.

I have heard the complaint about getting Mobil Vactra #2 in Canada before here on the forum. Not sure if it is a quantity issue or Canada restricts something in the product. Canada’s environmental laws are different than in the US. Whatever the reason it has come up before. Maybe C3D should send a small bottle with the machines that require it when you buy the machine.

@Eleanor_WL You can order the SO5 Pro Maintenance kit from robotshop.com. Robotshop is a C3D reseller in Canada and I’ve ordered from them numerous times.
It may take a while since its an on demand item and they only order it from C3D when someone places an order with them. If you aren’t in a hurry for it they are the best option.

@gdon_2003 It’s not related to environmental laws. It’s available in Canada but every distributor that I talked to only sells it in 45 or 55 gal drums.

You can try calling around to a few local machine shops. Most should have huge jugs of the stuff. I bet one would be more than happy to sell you a small quantity of the stuff for a few bucks if you brought your own container.
