Modeling question...sinking text into a convex surface

I’m taking my box lid and trying to engrave some initials on it.
In the Modeling screen, everything looks perfect:

But after putting roughing and finishing passes on it, I get this:

Any idea why?

The c2d is too big to load here…but here’s the design elements (simplified design for a test):

What tool are you using for finish pass? How wide are the letters?
Which version of create are you using?
Can you run it on MDF to see how it actually turns out? Can you e-mail the design file into support?

I’ve had that happen to me when I’ve had the outside perimeter and the text selected while applying the 3D roughing and finishing tool paths. Try just selecting just the outside perimeter and apply the two tool paths.

That worked, @Ed.E Ed! Of course. my next question is probably obvious…WHY?

There are so many things about the CC modeling tools that baffle me…I’m hoping the new interface and rework is going to be more intuitive.

Great question for @WillAdams

Because the vector(s) selected for 3D machining are boundaries. If you have both selected you’re telling it to machine inside the outer boundary, but DON’T cut inside the letters.
By selecting only the outer vector you’re telling it to machine everything inside that boundary.

I get it. Thanks, Tod!
