Motion 640 new user. Setup

Hey guys,
I’m trying to set this up. I have got the config downloaded to the machine and it when i hit the (i think) initalize the machine went to the back right cornor and stopped after trying hard to keep going right a few times. I think this is normal behaviour. but now when i connect and init it goes to the front and 3/4 to the right. I think i’m suppose to set the bit setter now. can’t find that option. and i’m basically uncomfortable with how to use motion but also what i’m suppose to do before running a job or after or after init or when shutting down… The docs for the last version are different enough that i’m lose. is there new docs or does someone have a video out yet on 640?

Configuring the BitSetter is now done in:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/docs/shapeoko-setup/

once it has been configured the checkbox for enabling/disabling it may be used as expected.

I wrote a bit about CM at:

but most of the text is along the lines of:

… click Connect to Cutter to connect to your machine.

and I’m pretty sure no one has ever read the entire thing since there’s a typo in it I haven’t bothered to fix which no one has mentioned finding w/o prompting.

yeah, i saw that doc. That’s for 610. My setup did not have a jog (test movement) nor a bitsetting process… after the init it just ended and went back to main screen where i could connect to machine.

i found enable bitsetter in the settings/options but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

The Setup Wizard hasn’t changed much since it was first added.

See:

for some further notes.

If you find a discrepancy, let us know and we will look into it.

hmm… well that’s weird… is there any issue with me running the setup new machine again?

It needs to be configured first:

No, there isn’t a problem with re-running the Setup Wizard — this may be done at need.

ok. i’ll let you know if this bitsetting shows up this time.

ok. this time it worked. I’m not sure why it failed last time. I highly doubt i hit cancel, but never know. Anyhow. my bitsetter check fail when i pressed down on it the status did not change.

the black wire from the right side rail is correctly and fully inserted into the control board pins marked bitsetter. what can i do?

Let us know about these difficulties at support@carbide3d.com and we’ll work through this with you.
