Moving the Electronics Power Switch

The electronics box for the HDM v3 is designed to be mounted to a wall. We’re not doing that and, instead, have the HDM on a sturdy table (I made it myself!) with the electronics box on a shelf underneath the HDM. So, since the power switch for the electronics box is next to the power cord, it faces the back of the table. That’s not really convenient, and I’d like to move it someplace more convenient.

Has anybody solved this? Worst comes to worst, I can design an electromechanical switch-flipper with a servo (and that would be a fun weekend project), but I’d rather not re-invent the wheel. I know I can just use the e-stop, but that’s not really what it was intended for.

It has to be plugged in somewhere, so perhaps make a switched socket? Then just ignore the switch on the electronics box.

For my S3, I added electrical wiring to the table it’s on. I have one plug to the wall, from there it goes to an outlet that is always live and a switch. The switched power then goes both to an outlet, and also through an E-Stop (which goes to it’s own outlet).

So the controller and VFD are on the E-Stop outlet, lighting is on the Switched outlet. At the end of the day throw the switch and everything is off.

I have my system plugged into a UPS. The VFD is on the non-battery side. The rest of it is protected.
The UPS is under my bench that sounds similar to yours, but it’s mounted at the very front of the bench. So after I shut off the computer, I punched the button on the UPS and it shuts off the entire system. It’s working really well for me and it saves the electronics in case something goes wrong with a brown out or spike in the power.
